Grand Island, Nebraska finds an EDGE in Pavement Management

Local News Spotlight

Grand Island, Nebraska

As warmer weather settles in, APTech’s engineers and technicians are heading out to project sites across the country. One of these projects, located in Grand Island, Nebraska, was recently highlighted by KSNB Local News Channel 4.

Our technician leading the project, Greg Kissel, spoke with the news agency about the importance of the work and what the citizens of Grand Island could expect while data collection was taking place. In the interview, Greg offers a rundown of how the Enhanced Data Gathering Equipment (EDGE) works and why it’s a benefit for daily commuters.

Our work in Grand Island was the result of a request released in 2021 for engineering services. The city wanted to conduct a pavement condition assessment to optimize its maintenance and repair activities, and APTech was chosen for the job. In just nine days, we used the EDGE to collect pavement condition data for the city and are now analyzing the findings. Once work is complete we will provide a final report to the city, as well as updated condition network maps, which they can use to get the most out of their road funding.

APTech frequently deploys the EDGE for roadway and aviation projects as a means to collect automated condition data. This allows agencies to continue to operate at normal capacity, without the need to shut down critical infrastructure.
