What’s the big IDEA?
It’s often a challenge for agencies to use their pavement management data in a concise, effective manner to communicate to stakeholders. Enter IDEA, APTech’s Interactive Data Exchange Application. Our web-based data visualization solution harnesses pavement management data and synthesizes it into an interactive platform that’s informative, demonstrated, easy to use, and adaptable.
Informative
IDEA demonstrates project results to audiences with varied levels of technical knowledge — a key to any successful pavement management program.
Demonstrated
We have implemented IDEAs for nearly 30 transportation agencies, including commercial airports, Department of Defense facilities, state DOTs, and cities.
Easy to Use
IDEA makes it easy to make sense of pavement management data by combining maps, photos, tables, and charts — allowing users to quickly review pavement condition, statistical data, and analysis results.
Adaptable
We can develop an IDEA for your organization using existing APMS data and maps.

Use IDEA to tell your story.
IDEA visually communicates your pavement’s:
Inventory data
PCI results
Work history summaries
Georeferenced photos of pavement conditions
Network-wide maps illustrating overviews, PCI conditions by pavement sections, and surface types
Multi-year pavement condition forecasts
Maintenance guidelines and recommendations
Recent Projects using IDEA
City of Champaign, Illinois Pavement Management System Update
By updating the City’s pavement management system with current condition data, the City is better equipped to predict needs, evaluate budget change impacts, and look at work options and their impacts on network condition.
Colorado Statewide Airport Pavement Management System
In 2016, APTech was awarded a 5-year contract with the Division to provide pavement evaluation and pavement management services for airports statewide. This project continues a relationship with the Division that extends back to 1996.
Michigan Statewide Airport Pavement Management System
Thanks to the Michigan DOT Office of Aeronautics’ satisfaction with our work, this contract has been renewed in 2009, 2013, and 2016 for additional updates. Their APMS now includes ninety-six airports, with approximately one-third of them being assessed each year.
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Airfield Pavement Assessment
The Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has an extensive pavement network, which represents a major infrastructure investment to the City of Phoenix. In order to protect this investment, the City contracted with us to develop a pavement maintenance management program (PMMP) that will allow the pavements to be managed in a cost efficient manner.
Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport Pavement Management System
With seventeen passenger airlines serving over 36 million passengers a year, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is the seventeenth busiest airport in the United States. Therefore, the preservation of the pavement infrastructure at Detroit Metro Airport is critically important for the safety of aircraft and the efficient movement of air traffic throughout the region — and the country.
