Mark Gardner, P.E.
Program Director, Local Municipalities and Private Agencies
When Mark was a child, his mother proudly observed his interest in seeing how things worked and redesigning them to work better—an interest that led inevitably to his career in engineering.
In his nearly four decades of pavement engineering, Mark has amassed extensive experience with roadway pavement evaluation, design, and management, which he uses as the Director of APTech’s Local Municipalities and Private Agencies Program. Mark's expertise includes coordinating pavement distress surveys (automated and manual) using the PCI method, linking georeferenced roadway asset data to GIS for visualization and reporting, and developing practical maintenance and rehabilitation plans for local agencies. Mark has also presented budget and performance forecasts to county boards and commissions, resulting in increased agency funding.
As a self-described hobby junkie, Mark enjoys photography, videography, radio control, motorcycling and bicycling (both on and off road), woodworking, leather working, shooting sports, making and collecting knives … if you can think of it, Mark has probably tried it at some point or is currently having a go at it. He tries to couple these hobbies with traveling, with a personal goal of visiting all the Texas State Parks and U.S. National Parks in the coming years.
